January in North West Florida

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

This is such a beautiful time of year in NW Florida.  The days are crisp and clear, and at AU things are slower than they are in the spring, summer and fall.  Most days we see animals we don’t get a chance to see the rest of the year.  There was a deer casually crossing the river as we came in to work on Sunday.  With nobody there to bother her she took her time crossing.  This morning when I came in, there was a doe in the river trip parking area.  She stopped to look at me then bolted into the woods.  Coldwater Creek had steam coming off it this morning and the marshy area under the shop ramp had ice covering it. On days like this, I am so grateful that I get to see frost covered fields and deer on my way to work, instead of bumper to bumper traffic.

Welcome 2009!

The holidays are over and we are all back at work, getting ready for the upcoming season.  There are changes coming this season.  We are changing Ranger Rick’s cabin over to a furnished family style cabin instead of a group cabin.  We hope to have it up and running by the first of March. We are hoping that guests looking for a three bedroom cabin will be especially happy about the change. We’ll keep you posted as other changes occur.

The bear

We finally got some pictures of the bear who has been hanging around AU for the last few months.  He visits a pot bellied pig that lives on the property.  Apparently the pig and the bear are friends. It’s hard to imagine, but they enjoy playing together.  If we get more pictures, we will post them here.
