All the zip lines and bridges are up. They are still working on platforms and one of the towers, but we are getting closer and closer to being done! Check out these photos of the sky bridge over Coldwater Creek and the video of zipping into the platform on the porch of the AU shop.

We are working hard to get Zip Adventures ready for the spring! Most of the poles for the first leg of the tour are in place and they will start putting the actual zip lines up tomorrow! If you have never been on a canopy zip tour, you need to come out and zip with us this year! It is a great way to combine eco adventure with the rush of flying through the air on a zip line! The canopy zip includes many zips, several sky bridges and several tree top platforns to view wildlife and eco systems from. I’ll keep you posted on our progress.

I guess NW Florida is like most states in the US this winter. We have had some strange weather. We have had high water for most of the last month. More days of rain than I can remember for the last twenty years. It snowed here on Friday February 12, 2010! Just for a short period of time, but hey Floridians will take what we can get snow wise. We are gearing up for a busy spring. The Greater Good Music and Art Festival will be held at AU March 5, 6 and 7, 2010. We are excited about starting the spring season with the festival. Check out their link on our website under upcoming events.

For anyone who loves the outdoors, and a little bit of adventure, a zip line canopy is for you! It is like like flying through the woods from walking bridge to walking bridge. Primarily nestled among the trees and taking by the river the zip lines are a fun way to spend the day. We hope to have ours up and running by June 1, 2010.

For all the fine people who live with cold weather every winter, my hat is off to you! Down in the Florida panhandle we have been spoiled for the past few years. We have had mild winters with the temps dropping below freezing a few times each winter. This winteris different. The temps have been below freezing for the last six nights with three nights to go before the cold snap passes! So for those of you who are in places where it is below zero, stay warm! Here’s looking toward a warm spring and a long hot summer for all of us!

This January it is cold in NW Florida…actually it is cold most places, we just are not used to it. For the last few days it has been topping out in the 40’s and dipping into the teens at night. When it gets this cold, the creek is warmer than the air. For those of you who have dunked into Coldwater Creek I know that is hard to imagine. There is a layer of ice on the swamp leading up the the AU shop. Even the snapping turtles are getting a taste of the cold.

Ice in the swamp on under the shop ramp.

We are looking forward to a wonderful 2010! When it is cold like it is now, it is hard to imagine that spring is just a few months away. It is though and soon enough kids will be on spring break, it will be warm enough to tube down Coldwater…soon after it will get hot and we will all be wishing for cooler temperatures

Usually we think of the spring as our rainy season…well…not this year. We had a fairly dry spring and so far we have had two flood in the last few weeks. Nothing serious, just enough to block bridges with debris, and cause us to move everything UP and last…but not least, we get to wade into work. This time of year, that is cold on the toes. As of yesterday, Coldwater Creek is back down to a normal level and river trips are up and going. Just a little excitement to keep all the winter time workers on our toes.
